Survey Costs

There are many people who offer their services as a Marine Surveyor and there is no legal requirement for them to be qualified or a member of a recognised surveying body. However, Marine Surveying is a professional occupation and anyone setting themselves out to be a Marine Surveyor should be qualified, have full Professional Indemnity insurance and be a member of a surveying organisation, which are:

• The International Institute of Marine Surveying. Link: International Institute of Marine Surveyors
• The Yacht Brokers, Designers and Surveyors Association. Link YDSA
• The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology Small Craft Group
• The Society of Consulting Marine Engineers and Ship Surveyors Small Craft Group
• The Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors (USA)
• The National Association of Marine Surveyors (USA)

Whilst some so called surveyors may offer cheap surveys or to undercut professional surveyors fees they may not belong to a professional society and their surveys may not be recognised by insurance providers or finance companies. Normal pre-purchase and insurance survey costs by professional's are in the range of £10 to £17 per foot, although actual cost of the survey will vary with the type of survey,the type of vessel, the specific work required and the location of the vessel. Sealutions Ltd is not VAT registered and so no additional 20% is payable on top of the quotation. No additional travel costs are charged for surveys in Hampshire, Sussex or Dorset. Surveys in other areas of the UK and overseas are undertaken, with charges at cost. We pride ourselves on offering competitive professional rates.
